Family Photography FAQ in South Florida from a Photographer and Videographer

We need family photos… anyone know a good photographer?!”

If you’ve ever asked this, you’re definitely not alone.

Finding the right family photographer can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Whether it’s your first session or you’re ready for a fresh start, knowing what to look for makes all the difference.

You want more than just pretty pictures. You want someone who:

- Captures your family’s real personality
- Keeps the experience relaxed and fun
- Delivers photos you’ll actually want to print and frame

Q: How do I choose the right family photographer? There are so many out there!

You're right, there are a lot of options, and not all photographers are created equal, especially when it comes to capturing the unique energy of a family session. Here’s what to keep in mind when narrowing down your search:

  • Photography Style: Are you drawn to bright and airy, warm and earthy, or true-to-life tones? Browse their portfolios to find a style that speaks to you and matches the vibe you want for your photos.

  • Experience with Kids: Family photography isn’t just about clicking a button, it’s about engaging your kids, rolling with the chaos, and creating authentic moments. Look for someone who’s great with little ones and knows how to keep things fun and relaxed.

  • Session Setting: Do you envision an outdoor photoshoot at the South Florida golden hour, cozy photos at home, or something more polished in a studio? Make sure the photographer offers the setting that suits your family best.

  • Connection & Comfort: The more comfortable you feel with your photographer, the more natural your photos will be. A good fit personality-wise can make all the difference in your experience, and your final gallery.

Finding the right photographer is about more than just pretty pictures, it’s about trusting someone to tell your family’s story in a way that feels true to you.

We’re both sisters, and moms, so we really get the beautiful chaos that comes with kids and teens. Whether your little one is full of energy or your teen is a little camera shy, we know how to create a relaxed and fun environment for everyone. Your family will feel comfortable and, yes, they’ll love it! We promise there will be smiles (for real!) all around.

Q: What can I expect during a family photo session?

Think of it as a fun, relaxed experience, not a stiff photo shoot!

  • Before: We’ll plan the location, time, and outfits so you feel fully prepped.

  • During: Lots of movement, laughter, and natural moments. we’ll guide you gently and your kids, no forced poses.

  • After: We’ll edit your images and deliver a full gallery within 7 days. You’ll choose your favorite photos based on the package you select.

Just be yourselves, we’ll handle the rest and capture the magic as it unfolds.

Q: What should we wear to our family session?

This is the number one question we get: “What should we wear?!”

Here are my top tips:

  • Start with Mom. Choose an outfit that makes you feel confident and comfortable, then coordinate the rest of the family around that look.

  • Stick to a color palette. Neutral tones and solid colors photograph beautifully. If you'll be holding a child, dress them in a shade that contrasts slightly so they stand out in your arms.

  • Skip the distractions. Avoid logos, neon colors, and busy prints, they can take the focus off your faces and the connection between you.

No stress, we’ve got you! Before your session, you'll receive a guidance with tips for outfits, plus reminders about nails, hair, makeup, and accessories so you'll feel completely prepared.

Q: How do I prepare my kids for the session?

It’s totally normal to worry about how your kids will behave, but don’t stress! we've got plenty of tricks up our sleeve, and we'll keep things light and fun.

Here are a few tips to help :

  • Talk to them beforehand. Let them know this won’t be a “stand still and smile” kind of thing, it’s more like a fun interaction where they get to play and be themselves.

  • Make sure they’re fed and rested. A snack before the session can work wonders. And if they nap, plan the session before or after so they're at their best.

  • Offer a little incentive. A small treat or fun outing afterwards can be great motivation!

Let them be kids. Don’t worry if they want to move, explore, or get silly, that’s when the most genuine moments (and best photos) happen.

The goal is connection, not perfection. Just show up, relax, and we’ll capture the magic as it unfolds.

Family photos aren’t just about smiling at the camera, they’re about capturing love, connection, and the stage of life you’re in right now.

Whether your kids are tiny or growing fast, these moments deserve to be documented in a way that feels natural and timeless.
